#115: Black Lives Matter- Lift Every Voice and Sing (by M. Roger Holland II)

Today I’m proud to share one of the recorded sessions from the 2020 Virtual Convention. M. Roger Holland II is a Composer and Teaching Assistant Professor in Music and Religion and Director of The Spirituals Project at the Lamont School of Music, University of Denver. His session today helps us learn about the theological roots of black Catholic music in the Church, both culturally and in light of the Church documents. He also provides several suggestions in ways you can introduce multicultural music in your parish’s repertoire, and shares the historical roots and cultural significance of “Lift Every Voice and Sing”.

#114: Changing the Method but Keeping the Message (with Michael Ruzicki)

Today I have the pleasure of sitting down with Michael Ruzicki, Training and Events Manager for Liturgy Training Publications. Michael has been a member of NPM for many years and this year we were honored to have him as one of our MEGA breakout presenters and one of our Plenum Address speakers.

Michael’s MEGA breakout and Plenum addressed focused on the Sacrament of Baptism and our baptismal call. Even more so, his MEGA breakout presented participants with a practical tool they can use to assess their parish's infant baptisms, first communion Masses, and the celebration of Confirmation through the lens of full, active, and conscious participation.

#113: Recruiting and Retaining Volunteer Ministers (with Patti Such) (REPLAY)

We want to thank you for the overwhelming response we had to the 2020 National Convention. While it was a virtual one, we were so impressed by your connection and engagement with one another, our speakers and our exhibitors.

Now, this is just a reminder that the Virtual Convention platform is available for Full Convention Registrants until September 15. If you originally registered as a Limited Convention registration, which gave you access to the platform from July 7-10, you can upgrade your existing registration! Go to the convention slider on the home page and select “upgrade my existing registration”. For just $100 more, you have access to the hundreds of hours of content for over 2 more months.

Did you not attend the Virtual Convention but now have second thoughts after hearing the experiences of other attendees? We're pleased to announce that we are re-opening Virtual Convention registration TODAY!

Starting today for a limited time, we are opening registration for those who want to experience the Virtual Convention who hadn't registered previously.  Email npmreg@npm.org for more information.

This is our last week of archived conversations before we return to new episodes!

Our next episode from the archives comes from Patti Such. This episode was originally released in May of last year and was produced by former Ministry Monday host Matt Reichert. Patti discusses how to recruit and manage volunteers for your ministry. While we understand that many parishes’ music ministry looks different, we know that new ministries are popping up and need volunteers at this time! For example: is your parish providing hospitality at the doors in the form of a “safety ministry”, assuring all have left their contact information who have attended a Mass? What about a cleaning ministry to clean & disinfect your church space after each liturgy?

Even in the midst of a pandemic, volunteers in ministry are certainly still needed, and we’re happy to bring you this episode today.
